4th January a dark day!

In more ways than one today is a dark day, both in reality and metaphorically. When i left the house this morning for my first day back at college after 3 weeks of eating, drinking and generally being merry over Christmas, it was a real shock to the system. Waking up at 6.30am is not the easiest of tasks when I've had days of lie ins in fact I'm sure I became a nocturnal creature over the holidays. The day was made slightly more depressing by the fact it was still dark when i left the house at 8am, (I have not seen this time of day in so long I forgot what it looked like)

A  return to college and back to the metaphorical grind stone of using my brain for slightly more taxing decisions than, what Christmas TV special shall I watch today, was not the only thing to make this a dark day, for today was the day the VAT rose by 2.5% to 20% just to make the new year slightly more special for all of us. In the next few months we'll watch in horror as the price of so many things we enjoy consuming increase.

The government has tried to soften the blow somewhat by not applying the VAT charge to a number of 'essential items' and VAT charge will be at reduced rates on other items. Whoop-de-do I'm sure we're all jumping for joy at this prospect, its not as if we'll be able to travel anywhere to even spend our money as the rail fares have increased and petrol prices have sky rocketed. £50 used to fill up my tank and now its around £60 only a few months later.

So now we can all wallow in post Christmas blues and we have many more reasons to be SAD this year! I've never liked January.

Entering the blogging world

So I finally succumbed and set up a blog, somewhere to express my thoughts and hopefully entertain some people enough to actually read what I have to say.

I have been told by many that blogging is a great place to start out as a writer and journalist and that is exactly what I am aspiring to be.

Apologies for the cliched phrase but I hope that 2011 is my year, I want to be able to finish the year writing for a living in a great job, so only 361 days left to achieve that.

I started 2010 with little hope it would be possible for me to become a journalist, after graduating in June 2009 i had struggled to find a job and was working in a cafe, not exactly a life time ambition, but in 2010 i decided it was time to pull my finger out and start driving to achieve my dream.
So after some work experience at a local paper i decided to return to college to study journalism, 2010 ended as a pretty good year, i had started to sort my life out.

So in 2011 i will finish my course and hope i can find a decent job. I hope my hard work will pay off but i will be sad to leave college as i have made some great friends there, but in a few weeks it is time to once again go out into the big wide world and try and find someone who is willing to employ me!
